   The REACH Committee is a city-wide coalition of Calgarians dedicated to participatory decision-making on the future of the Alberta Children's Hospital. If a new Children's Hospital is to be built, it should be at the right location, for the right reasons, and following correct procedures.

   JANE MCQUITTY  Candidate for Ward E, Calgary Health Region Board

Jane McQuitty stands for democratic, participatory decision-making on major health care issues, such as where health care facilities will be located.

Tired of the marketing model? Tired of being invited to focus groups to help decide what colour the walls should be, after the CHR decides where the walls will be built?

Jane McQuitty stands for dialogue, discussions, and due process, before CHR makes major decisions.  This will benefit both the CHR and the public by:

  • strengthening the relationships between the CHR and its critics;
  • ensuring all sides of an issue are examined and aired;
  • building trust and confidence in CHR decisions;
  • leading to thoughtful decisions that respect public opinions.


Jane McQuitty stands for keeping the public in public healthcare:

  • no user fees;
  • contracts only with stand-alone private health care facilities that remain entirely within the public healthcare system and whose staff remain public employees;
  • no contracts with stand-alone private health care facilities that wish to provide privately-paid as well as publicly-funded health care.
 Public health care protects all of us from the unexpected. 
 We can’t afford to lose it. We must participate in planning it.

Jane McQuitty is a lifelong Calgarian – a university-educated young woman with a passion for democracy – a naturalist and dedicated environmentalist – a creative and effective communicator – fluently bilingual and cheerful in both languages.
